Firm, well-cured ware potatoes grown in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands — graded to size, handled cool and packed in nets for wholesale markets, hotels and export buyers.

The potato (Solanum tuberosum) is a cool-season tuber crop and one of the world’s most important staple foods, valued for its versatility, value and keeping quality. We supply ware (table) potatoes — the fresh eating potato — as distinct from sweet potato. ShambaFresh supplies fresh Tanzanian potatoes to commercial buyers, sourced through our own farming and a trusted outgrower network, cured and graded to specification, and handled cool from harvest to dispatch.
We supply ware potatoes as a fresh, whole tuber for wholesale, food service and export, in the common table varieties grown in the highlands. Tubers are lifted at maturity, cured for skin set, sorted for size and finish, and packed to the net or bag format your market requires — to your buying window rather than a fixed pack-out.
Potato is a highland crop, and Tanzania’s Southern Highlands — areas such as Mbeya, Njombe and Iringa, along with the Kilimanjaro and Arusha zones — provide the cool temperatures, fertile volcanic soils and reliable rainfall the crop needs to bulk up well. We aggregate supply through our outgrower network for a consistent, traceable base rather than one-off open-market lots.
Our potatoes are grown with organic-minded practices — planned rotation, clean seed selection, hilling and careful soil and water management, with integrated pest management where possible. Good agronomy at the farm is what gives clean skins and even tuber size, and outgrowers are supported with guidance so the crop grades out to the standard buyers expect, season after season.

Every consignment is inspected against the specification agreed with the buyer — tuber size, shape and skin finish, and freedom from greening, sprouting, cuts, rots or growth cracks. Damaged, green or off-size tubers are set aside, so what a buyer receives matches what was ordered.
Potatoes are lifted once the haulm has died back and the skins have set, which is what protects the tubers from skinning and bruising during handling. Tubers are cured briefly in a cool, dark, ventilated space to toughen the skin and heal minor wounds before grading — a step that directly improves storage and travel.
After curing, tubers are sorted to remove anything off-grade, then graded by size and quality class. Grading to a consistent size band is what lets a buyer pack to a fixed retail or food-service standard, so we grade to the size and pack weight you specify.
Potatoes are packed to your format — commonly vented net or mesh sacks (for example 25 kg or 50 kg) or bulk bins and cartons — and palletised for transport. Retail packs and bulk food-service formats are both available to specification, kept dark to prevent greening.
Ware potatoes are held cool, dark and ventilated, typically around 7–10°C — cold enough to slow sprouting and shrinkage but not so cold that starch turns to sugar, which would darken them on cooking. Keeping tubers out of light prevents greening, so we store and move them covered to preserve eating and cooking quality.
For export we move potatoes by refrigerated or ventilated sea reefer where volumes and lead time allow, and by road for regional East African orders. The route is matched to the destination and the buyer’s schedule, with tubers kept cool, dry and dark from packhouse to delivery.
Potato harvests follow the highland rainfall cycles, with main lifting periods around the middle and end of the year depending on region and planting. Grown across several zones, supply is available for much of the year — we will share the current position against your enquiry.
Supply is aggregated across our farming and outgrower network, which lets us commit to repeatable volumes rather than one-off lots. Tell us your target volume, size band and delivery schedule and we will confirm what we can meet.
We prepare fresh potatoes for buyers end to end — sourcing, curing, grading, packing and arranging the export documentation the destination requires. Tubers are presented to your size, class and packaging specification so they arrive firm, clean and ready for your distribution or retail.
For wholesale buyers, distributors and food service we supply potatoes in net sacks or bulk bins to an agreed size class and pack weight, on a schedule that fits your business. Pricing, MOQ and lead times are provided on enquiry.
Ware potatoes suit the Gulf and regional East African trade, travelling well by ventilated sea reefer and road thanks to their natural keeping quality. See what we supply to each market.

Send us your target volumes, grades and destination and we’ll come back with pricing, MOQ and lead times. This is a B2B enquiry — no online checkout.
Both. We source ware potatoes through our farming and outgrower network in the Tanzanian highlands, cure, grade and pack them, and prepare them for wholesale buyers at home and for regional and international buyers, arranging the export documentation the destination requires.
